Andrew Manze-Helsingborg’s New Maestro

“Calling it a musical paradise is putting it, perhaps, a bit too strongly, but I feel [Sweden is] one of the last great homes for culture, in particular music.”

Andrew Manze is one of the shining stars of classical music. As a violinist, he has made several critically acclaimed musical recordings and has delighted British radio audiences as a presenter for the BBC, in addition to conducting orchestras throughout Europe. Manze, a relative newcomer to Sweden, is principal conductor at the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra. He talks to Melisa Vazquez about his experiences in Sweden, why Beethoven was such a revolutionary, and what keeps him, after 20 years, still impassioned by classical music.
